Hidden Folks is still on the App Store ($4.99, rated 4+). Its latest update, in November 2025, was a compatibility fix, and its notes tease a possible sequel. Until then, these games keep some of what made it special.
Short answer: the closest match is the Hidden Through Time series. For something different and free, with no ads, try Oopsies.

We haven't played these games for this page. What we say about them comes from their listings, so tap a name to check the listing yourself before buying.
Oopsies is our game, so take this one with a pinch of salt. It's a different kind of search: short levels instead of big scenes. Each level is a crowd of Oopsies, the one to find is shown at the top, and every world bends the rule. In Foggy Window you wipe a steamed-up window to see behind it, in Shadow Show you only get a shadow, in Double Trouble nobody tells you who to find, you look for the two identical Oopsies.
🪟 Foggy Window
Wipe the window to find the Oopsie.
🌑 Shadow Show
Which Oopsie casts this shadow?
👯 Double Trouble
Two Oopsies are exactly alike.
There are over 100 levels, a collector card for every Oopsie you find, and a leaderboard in every world. A timer runs, but the stopwatch button on the home screen hides it, along with the "+10 s" you get for a wrong tap. Where Hidden Folks wins: hand-drawn scenes, hundreds of tappable gags, and no clock at all. Where Oopsies is different: it's free, it's still adding new worlds, and a level fits in a coffee break.
The closest in spirit. You find objects scattered through hand-drawn scenes from four ages of history, each with a cryptic hint, a bit like the hints behind Hidden Folks' targets. It adds a level editor: you can build levels, share them online and play other people's. Five expansions sell for $1.99 per expansion.
Hidden Through Time 2: Magic ($2.99) adds a "Reality Shift" that flips each map between day and night or summer and winter, and Hidden Through Time: Discovery ($2.99) has Victorian, noir and sci-fi eras with no timers. Both were last updated in September 2024, and in both the hints can be turned off.
Good to know: the original's privacy label lists "Data Used to Track You (identifiers, usage data; third-party advertising)". The two follow-ups list "Data Not Linked to You", and Hidden Folks lists "Data Not Collected". More in Oopsies vs Hidden Through Time.
Instead of a landscape, a mosaic made of thousands of little objects, and a list of things to spot in it. The listing says the objects are picked at random, so you can replay it, and it's a rebuilt remaster of a 2012 classic. It has no characters or jokes to discover the way Hidden Folks does, but it's the most recently updated game here after Oopsies.
Hidden objects inside the paintings of James Ensor, with small puzzles and quirky characters. The description promises no ads and no in-app purchases, and calls it slow-paced and relaxing. If what you loved in Hidden Folks was the art, this is the one to look at. It's rated 13+.
Busy illustrated scenes based on children's search-and-find books: find a family of meerkats, or a group of unicorns, in each one. They're older (last updated April 2020 and August 2022), and both privacy labels say "Data Not Collected".
Then you can play Hidden Folks+ at no extra cost. Apple Arcade is $6.99/month, and Apple says its games have no ads and no in-app purchases. Hidden Folks+ was last updated in November 2023.
Not on the App Store yet: we found no sequel there on October 16, 2026. The release notes of Hidden Folks' November 2025 update hint at one and point fans to the developer's newsletter at hiddenfolks.com.
Hidden Folks costs $4.99 once, with no in-app purchases listed. It's also part of Apple Arcade as Hidden Folks+ (Apple Arcade is $6.99/month, and Apple says it has no ads and no in-app purchases).
Going by the listings, the Hidden Through Time series: hand-drawn scenes, objects to find with cryptic hints, and a one-time price ($2.99 each). Hidden Through Time: Discovery even says it has no timers.
Hidden Folks is rated 4+ itself. For something made around one character to find, Where's the Meerkat and Where's the Unicorn? are based on children's search-and-find books, and Oopsies (rated 4+) shows a picture of the Oopsie to find, so no reading is needed.
Every game on this page lists Mac in its Compatibility section. Several need a Mac with an M1 chip or later, including the Hidden Through Time games and Oopsies. Hidden Folks, Hidden Folks+ and the original Hidden Through Time also list Apple TV.
A free seek-and-find game where every world bends the rules. No ads, no in-app purchases, and a timer you can hide.
