What's on the sheet
- 6 rows of 5 Oopsies
- Every Oopsie in a row has the same color
- The rule is color plus accessory; the odd one is missing the accessory
Printed instructions: “In each row the Oopsies are the same color. Circle the one that doesn't belong. Hint: look at what they wear!”
About this odd one out sheet
This sheet is close to how the Odd Ones world in the app works: every Oopsie in a row shares the same color, so the difference is in one detail. Four of them wear the same accessory and the fifth doesn't. Children who rush will circle the wrong one; children who check each face will get it.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Encourage your child to check each Oopsie in turn and say "glasses, glasses, glasses, no glasses".
- A row taking too long? Tell them what to look for ("look at the mouths") and let them find it.
- Rows with hair can be tricky: hair counts, hats don't.
The skill it trains: visual discrimination
Visual discrimination is the ability to notice how things you see are alike and how they differ: their shape, color, size and small details. It is what tells a child that b and d are two different letters, or which of two almost identical pictures has an extra button.
Visual discrimination: what it is, signs a child finds it hard, and more activities
Play it in Oopsies: Odd Ones
💡 Odd Ones
Every Oopsie on screen shares a feature with the one to find: its color, an accessory, its smile or its shape (all red, all with a mustache, all with glasses…). That shared feature never gives it away, so children compare faces and small details.
