What's on the sheet
- 4 close-ups and 5 whole Oopsies: one isn't peeking
- Each close-up shows most of the face
- Every Oopsie is a different color, so color is a clue
Printed instructions: “Each circle shows part of an Oopsie. Draw a line from each circle to the Oopsie who is peeking. One Oopsie isn't peeking!”
About this who's peeking? sheet
Each round window shows part of an Oopsie, the way the Peekaboo world in the app shows only a close-up of the Oopsie to find. On this easy sheet the windows show most of the face, and every Oopsie has its own color, so a child can work out who is peeking from a part, with color as a helping hand.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Ask your child to describe what they see in the window first: "big glasses, an orange face".
- Cover a whole Oopsie with your hand, leaving a bit showing, and play the same game in real life.
- Ready for more? On the hard sheet the windows are smaller and all the Oopsies share one color.
The skill it trains: visual closure
Visual closure is the ability to recognize something when you only see part of it. The brain fills in what is missing: you know the cat is under the sofa when only its tail sticks out, and you can read a word even when a coffee stain hides half a letter.
Visual closure: what it is, signs a child finds it hard, and more activities
Play it in Oopsies: Peekaboo
🔍 Peekaboo
You only see a close-up of the Oopsie to find (its face, its eyes, its mouth or the top of its head) and have to recognize it in the crowd. After a wrong tap, or 30 seconds without finding it, the close-up zooms out a little.
