What's on the sheet
- 5 close-ups and 6 whole Oopsies
- Close-ups of the eyes, the mouth, the top of the head or the side
- All the Oopsies share one color, so color is no clue
Printed instructions: “Each circle shows a small part of an Oopsie: eyes, a mouth, a hairdo. Draw a line to the Oopsie who is peeking. One Oopsie isn't peeking!”
About this who's peeking? sheet
The close-ups are tighter and show different parts: the eyes, the mouth, the top of the head or one side. And every Oopsie on the sheet is the same color. To find who is peeking, a child has to picture the whole Oopsie from a small piece, the core of visual closure.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Ask your child which part of the face each window shows before looking for the Oopsie.
- Glasses, teeth and hairdos are the best clues. Point one out if your child is stuck.
- Cut the windows out and use them as cards for a memory game afterwards.
The skill it trains: visual closure
Visual closure is the ability to recognize something when you only see part of it. The brain fills in what is missing: you know the cat is under the sofa when only its tail sticks out, and you can read a word even when a coffee stain hides half a letter.
Visual closure: what it is, signs a child finds it hard, and more activities
Play it in Oopsies: Peekaboo
🔍 Peekaboo
You only see a close-up of the Oopsie to find (its face, its eyes, its mouth or the top of its head) and have to recognize it in the crowd. After a wrong tap, or 30 seconds without finding it, the close-up zooms out a little.
